NEW YORK TIMES "Innate classicism was the first great pleasure of Configuration Dance Theatre." CDT'S ROYAL ARTISTS Royal ballet companies engage only the world's best, an honor and distinction held by four of CDT's leading artists, Joseph Cipolla, Susan Jaffe, Michael Shannon, and Catherine Batche
ller. ARTISTIC DIRECTOR JOSEPH CIPOLLA In 1986, Sir Peter Wright invited Cipolla to England's Sadler's Wells Royal Ballet (awarded a Royal charter and patronage in 1956 with the Royal Ballet of Covent Garden) where ballet artists are honored and revered like movie and sports stars. During his 16 y
ears as a Principal Dancer for Sir Peter Wright and David Bintley, Sadler's Wells was renamed Birmingham Royal Ballet in 1990, and granted independence in 1997 under the patronage of Her Majesty the Queen, His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, and Lady Sarah Chatto. In 1993, Cipolla was nominated
for a Lawrence Olivier Award in recognition of his achievements in dance, the most prestigious award in British theatre (and internationally equivalent to the Oscar, Tony and Golden Globe) and was invited to perform at the 1994 and 1995 Olivier Award Ceremonies. Cipolla returned to his New York ho
me in 2002, returning to BRB when called upon for administrative and dancing roles. In 2007, Ballet-Dance Magazine wrote, "British ballet saw the welcome return of long time favorite Joseph Cipolla as De Guiche in David Bintley's 'Cyrano.' Even under costume and heavy make-up, there was no mistaki
ng his commanding presence." RESIDENT CHOREOGRAPHER MICHAEL SHANNON Shannon, was the first American Graduate of the Moscow Choreographic Institute, Bolshoi Ballet Academy, and Hungarian State Ballet Institute. He was the first American Principal Dancer of the Bolshoi Ballet since its founding in 1
776 for Yuri Grigorovich, Principal Dancer of the Vienna State Opera Ballet for Elena Tchernichova, and Principal Dancer for England's Birmingham Royal Ballet for David Bintley. In 1994, Shannon started working with film and theater actors, and was commissioned to choreograph and stage "Monday Afte
r the Miracle" which was awarded Best Play of 1995 in Moscow. Thirty-five of his original works for classical and contemporary ballet have premiered in Europe and the United States during the past 15 years. Cipolla has premiered ten new Shannon works since 2005. In 2008, Shannon was honored with a
YAGP Outstanding Choreographers Award. The New York Times described his "What's the Pointe," "Yumeji," and "Tchaicotic," as "atmospheric reverie, sexy, ballet to blush by, stabbing footwork, canons of movement, and striking patterns." The Buffalo News described them as "unequivocal standouts, captiv
ating, intimate, sensual and slick, reminds one of Jiri Kylian, Mats Ek and Dwight Rhoden." THE LEGENDARY SUSAN JAFFE Countless journalists have written about Jaffe's 22-year legendary reign at American Ballet Theatre, but no one better than Anna Kisselgoff of The New York Times. "Susan Jaffe had i
t all. She was our country's long-stemmed American rose She raised the standard of dancing She matched dazzle with eloquent form She was determined to extend her range and did not hesitate to remold herself Few ballerinas in the world excelled in as wide a repertory. Jaffe still "extends her range"
in roles as author, television host, actress, educator, orator, business owner, volunteer, artistic advisor, choreographer. She served as Advisor to the Chairman ABT's Board of Governing Trustees from 2002-2007 and is still faculty member at the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School. She lectures for D
uke Corporate Education with a class on Excellence, co-founded Princeton Dance
Theater Studio in 2003, and is Co-Artistic Director and a choreographer of DanceVision Youth Ensemble based in Princeton, New Jersey.
An illustrious Dance Magazine Awardee, she joined them to co-produce and host the weekly television show, "Dance New York." She was featured on "Dance in America," in the movie, "Angie," starring Geena Davis, and in the documentary, "Ballet," directed by Frederick Wiseman. VIDEO MUSIC "Circles,"

Buffalo News 5/07/08 "Michael Shannon's 'What's the Pointe,' sensual, slick, a la choreographer, Dwight Rhoden, a satisfying blend of intimate partnering and watch me strut dancing; 'Yumeji' passion; 'Tchaicotic' captivating, reminds one of choreographers, Mats Ek and Jiri Kylian. Susan Jaffee's 'Novem,' a pas de deux built around subtle variances, and like Shannon's works, had the goods. Yuri Zukov's 'Levitation,' clever, engaging, simply exquisite. A varied and solid program by CDT."

I agree excellent +10, they are outstanding. My husband used to hate ballet until we saw Configuration Dance Theatre. Their directors and choreographers are American stars of ballet from internationally famous, historic companies, Joe Cipolla, Catherine Batcheller, Michael Shannon, and Susan Jaffee. My husband not only liked them, he wants to see them with me again. He now understands why great ballet, like great sports, is loved and enjoyed by men, women and children all over the world.
