Former Secretary of State Colin Powell, appearing on the June 10, 2007, edition of "Meet The Press," reiterated and expanded on his claim that he was misled by unknown forces in the intelligence community who failed to reveal vital information to him before his infamous February 5, 2003, speech before the United Nations proclaiming proof of Iraq's weapons of mass destruction (WMD) programs.

Only the ignorant keep defending the Iraq war. The going did not get tough in Iraq..........the war was lost the moment it was started and Powell understood that from the get go. I cannot understand that so many still think Iraq can be won. An unconventional war CANNOT be won with conventional warfare. It is one of the lessons all students of the war colleges learn. It surprises me that John McCain has not paid attention in these classes.

Why is it that there are people in poverty in this country? Why? Because their lazy? I'm lazy. I make a lot of money. No, the big difference between them and me is that my parents, my teachers, my peers expect me to do my best. Grow up in an area where you're expected to just survive...how well will YOU do? It starts by saving the kids (I mean starting at birth) from a life of self-destruction. Bring compassion and wisdom to our poorest neighborhoods and lift this nation up.

Lift this country from the ground up. Reach into our poorest neighborhoods and teach parents how to give their babies and kids a leg-up. Teach these parents to read to them, to talk with them. Those children will have greater self-value, actually have the basic skills to take in a real education, and live lives of substance and value. Do so, and you drastically reduce the "carry costs" of our society: prisons, welfare, etc. Suddenly, you have REAL wealth with depth.

I don't know too much about the administrative workings in the white house... or how information is passed on... But obviously.. Colin Powell isn't a CIA director.. he's only brief based on information that is presented to him.. I feel that Powell isn't so much covering his ass... but he does feel that he has failed the American people by allowing the Iraq war to have happen... I still have respect for the guy.. and I hope Obama will use in wisely...

Powell rebuilt the US military after Vietnam. The US military became strong under the Powell doctrine, and when W ignored the doctrine to invade Iraq the military was weakened again.

Even if there WERE WMDs in Iraq, there was no reason to believe they would be used against us. Saddam wasn't threatening to do so and he had no connection to Al Qaeda. The WMDs were a pretext for an illegal invasion and Powell was every bit as complicit as the neocons who he is now trying to distance himself from.
