In 1654 Cossack Ukraine accepted the sovereignty of the Muscovite tsar in return for the recognition and protection of all cossack rights and privileges, laws and institutions. The agreement was quickly violated by Moscow.

Your knowledge of ... ( 6 months ago by cvty)
Your knowledge of history is bullshit. CHmelnytsky was polish soldier (his father was Pole) who stood against polish lord Czaplinsky. Ukrainians dont want to understand that Chemlnytsky's uprising wasnt "Ukrainian uprising against Poles". It was uprising of farmers and free Cossacks against Polish lords (in fact, there were lots of Pole who fight together with Cossacks). So the fact is that Chmelnytsky fought for his own thing. Try to read more about that, my friend.
Khmelnytsky was as ... ( 6 months ago by MiddletownDreamz)
Khmelnytsky was as much Polish as he was Russian after Pereiaslav of 1654. Cossackdom existed in Central Ukraine before the Lublin Union of 1569 which detached Dnipro Ukraine from the Grand Principality of Lithuania and incorporated it into the Polish Kingdom. In addition, the Zaporozhian Cossacks continued to function beyond the control of either the Polish king or szlachta nobility. Khmelnytsky, like other registered Cossacks looked to the king as the protector of cossack rights but Polish? na
