Joy Division Love will tear us apart New Video BBC version

Uploaded by: stellarnightdotcom
Video Description:
A new video by Jonathan Beamish for the earliest recorded version of the song produced as a
John Peel Session for the BBC in 1979.
The original band footage is a mixture of a performance video shot by the band for the single release (minus the damaged shots) and live concert excerpts from Plank, Brussels and the Apollo, Manchester. .
We needed to do some tricky retiming and editing to sync it up with the footage which is from completely different versions of the song.
Odd to discover that much of the original performance video done for the single release wasn't edited properly with much of the shots of the band playing not cut accurately to the audio.

This video reminds me of a performance JD did on a Northwest TV show in 1979. The producer did an effects job on their performance, yellow shimmers, strobe lights, pixelation of the band, that type of thing. Afterwards, obviously very pleased with his handy work he went and showed the band what he'd created and asked them what they thought. There was a pause before Hooky answered 'it's fookin' rubbish mate.'
This video is not as bad as that one, but it's still fairly poor.

BBC version, was floating around back in the day. There are two other versions on the US 12". It was first recorded for a John Peel session in November 1979, then re-recorded in January 1980 and March 1980. It is the latter version that appears on Substance. The January 1980 version originally appeared as the single's B-side.

"Odd to discover that much of the original performance video done for the single release wasn't edited properly with much of the shots of the band playing not cut accurately to the audio." Video was recorded live, and has yet another mix of this track. Ian's mic cable cut out, his vocals were dubbed in later, thus the disconnect.
