This song is tricky because it makes you think its patriotic and makes you feel very patriotic but its actually an account of a juvenile who is forced to become a soldier and fight in a war instead of going to prison. Its a great anti-war song, that shows the truth about a soldier's indoctrination, back to civilian life. This I know all too well.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Is this song a jingoistic anthem? No. But is it anti-American? DEFINITELY NO. Anyone who's ever actually listened to Bruce talk knows that he loves America. He just got pissed about people being drug into a war they didn't want to fight then shitted on by people like Jane Fonda when they got back. There's a big difference in being mad at your country and being mad at your government. Go Bruce, even if your views are lightyears left of mine.

This song gives me goose bumbs when I hear it. It is an anti-war song and the references to Vietnam make me sad when I hear them. So many veterans have been fucked over while lazy ass people who don't want to work take advantage of the system.
